Kinetic Key Engineering Company was found in 1988 and incorporated in 1991 in Hong Kong. Kinetic Key Co. Ltd. (KKCL) is a Consulting Engineer, Contractor, Equipment Supplier for Marine/Civil Engineering, Boat Mooring/Navigation Components, and Commercial Diving in Hong Kong and China (PRC).

KKCL established Production Lines and worked with Manufacturers in mainland China (PRC) to provide full range of Mooring Components (Mooring Buoys, Chains, Swivels, Shackles and Concrete Sinkers etc.) and develop the Non-metal Mooring Buoys included but not limited to EVA / Polyurea and Fiberglass Module (GRP) filled with hard Polyurethane (PU), it has been well accepted as more reliable Products for long term operation. Currently, KKCL is working with Private Boat Clubs in Hong Kong for upgrading their existing Steel Mooring Systems with the new designed Non-metal Buoys.

Mr. Kin-Kwong Li is the Director and General Manager of KKCL, Mr. Li is a British, Chinese and Hong Kong Registered Marine Engineer and Licensed Commercial Diving Specialist since 1982 and 1990 respectively. He has involved in a variety of marine engineering projects both above and under water for more than 40 years. The desire to train quality divers and promote diving related educations led to the formation of Hong Kong Institute of Scuba Training Ltd. (HKIST) and Scuba World Club (SWC) in Hong Kong since 1989, and Shenzhen Scuba World Co. Ltd. (SZSWC) in Shenzhen, China (PRC) since 2004. As a professional engineer and educator over 30 years, Mr. Li has trained and certified more than 4,000 students including 500 Professional Instructors and Instructor Trainers, and will continue to provide all levels of training courses to enable you to become the best and the most respectable divers and dive leaders in the diving community.

With his sound experiences in marine engineering and commercial diving, Mr. Li has been inviting as Expert Witness at the High Court in Hong Kong to provide expert opinions and advises on marine, recreational and commercial diving accidents since 1995.

DESIGN, SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF BOAT MOORING / NAVIGATION SYSTEMS

The weaknesses of the traditional Steel Mooring Buoys are rusty, worn out and bearing of all pulling forces among the cylindrical structure of the Mooring Buoy. In case of aging and/or collision, the Steel Mooring Buoys will be creaked, holed, sunk or pulled apart during a heavy storm.

Non-metal Mooring Buoys are available in two versions: Middle Shaft Version (Middle Shaft with top and bottom Mooring Rings) and Through Chain Version (The Mooring Buoy with Hollow Structure that allows the Chain to go through). The idea of the Non-metal Mooring Buoys is to remove the stress (pulling forces) from the cylindrical body of the Mooring Buoy, thus, all the pulling forces will be directly taken over by the middle shaft or mooring chain and the mooring lines to the Boat, the Mooring Buoy itself only acts as a floatation unit to support the weight of the mooring chain and maintain about 50 % stays afloat on the surface as required.

With the high technology support and availability of new material nowadays, the new designed Non-metal Mooring Buoys are either made with high density Ethylene-co-Vinyl Acetate (EVA) inside and sprayed with several coats of Polyurea outside, or Fiberglass Module (GRP) with Reinforced Rubber Fender and filled with hard Polyurethane (PU) inside. Despite the weight and size of a Non-metal Mooring Buoy is much less than a Steel Mooring Buoy under the same requirement, a Non-metal Mooring Buoy is more long lasting (about 10 years or more under normal usage) and maintenance free for long term operation. It really overcomes most of the previous problems on the Steel Mooring Buoys and significantly reduces the on-going maintenance costs. Colour Choice of Yellow / Green / Red is also available upon request.

There are many choices of HDPE or EVA/Polyurea Buoys available in the market nowadays, it is true that the cylindrical body of a EVA/Polyurea Mooring Buoys will never get rusty and worn out, however, the Mooring Rings and the Middle Shaft that are made in galvanized mild steel may pull apart from the cylindrical body when they become rusty/worn out, and will only last for a few years even under continuous maintenance. This is the reason why we designed and made all our Non-metal Mooring Buoys with Stainless Steel Middle Structures for maintenance free and long lasting.

Mooring Chain connects the Mooring Buoy to the Concrete Sinker underwater, but most of the Boat Owners did not get what they paid for ! The material used for the Mooring Chains makes a world difference in its pulling strength and durability although they looks the same.
Mooring Chains (Stud Link, AM or Open Link, PM) are made by Forged Steel and are classified into Three Categories (Grade I, II and III), Grade I Chains are slightly cheaper, but
it corrodes much quicker in seawater condition and the pulling strength is 40 % less than the Grade II Chains.
Grade II Chains with hot dip galvanized finishing (Stud or Open Link) are the best choice for Boat Mooring Systems in seawater condition.

MARINE ENGINEERING AND COMMERCIAL DIVING CONTRACTOR AND CONSULTANT

EngineMr. Li received his in-house and overseas training in construction and maintenance of marine going vessels, Mitsubishi UE Engines, BBC Turbo Chargers and Woodward Hydraulic and Electronic Governors during his employment as Ship Repair Superintendent of Hong Kong United Dockyards Ltd. and Electrical and Mechanical Manager of BBC Brown Boveri (now called ABB) from 1969 to 1986. Mr. Li is a specialist in the maintenance and trouble shooting of marine diesel engines, exhaust gas turbo chargers and speed control governors of ocean going vessels. Marine engineering works carried out included but not limited to Ship Repairing, Underwater Maintenance, Wreck Recovery, Supply and Installation of all sizes of Mooring Systems, Floating Pontoons/Ramps and Rubber Fenders for Yacht Clubs, Wharf and Public Piers in Hong Kong.

Mr. Li earned his Commercial Diving Instructor license in 1990, and has been working as a Contractor and Consultant for Marine Engineering and Commercial Diving for public utilities and private companies in Hong Kong and China (PRC) for more than 30 years. With his sound experiences in marine engineering and commercial diving, Mr. Li has been inviting as an Expert Witness at the High Courts in Hong Kong to provide expert opinions and advises onmarine, recreational and commercial diving accidents since 1995.
